The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia based at the Hague has found two Bosnian-Serb cousins guilty of murder, extermination, cruel treatment, and inhumane acts, as crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Milan Lukic and his cousin Sredoje Lukic were found guilty in relation to the deaths of Muslims during the Bosnian war of the 1990’s:

“Milan Lukic, 41, who prosecutors said led a Serb paramilitary group during the 1992-1995 war known as the “White Eagles” or “Avengers”, was sentenced to life in prison for the burning and killing of at least 119 Bosnians in two separate incidents in June 1992.

Sredoje Lukic, 48, who prosecutors said was also a member of the unit, was given 30 years imprisonment….

Both men had pleaded not guilty to all charges and said they were not present in the eastern Bosnian town of Visegrad at the time of the crimes….

..’What the two accused destroyed in June of 1992 is far beyond their capacity to repay,’ prosecutor Dermot Groome told judges as the trial ended in May…..

….The brutality of crimes in Visegrad, a small town on the banks of the River Drina, stand out even amid the atrocities that punctuated the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

Groome told judges at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal that in one massacre in June 1992, the cousins barricaded nearly 70 Muslims – elderly men, women and children ranging in age from 75 years to just two days – into a house and set fire to it.

As flames tore through the crowded rooms and the victims inside screamed in agony, the Lukic cousins stood outside shooting anybody who tried to escape, he said.

In another attack described during the trial, Milan Lukic and other paramilitaries allegedy lined up seven Muslim men beside the Drina and shot them in the back with semi-automatic gunfire.
