American Christian Evangelicals Dump Israel
Today’s Jerusalem Post carries an article entitled “Israel is losing the PR war so badly that even evangelical support is eroding“. Written by Brian Schrauge the main thrust of the piece seems to be that Israel is loosing the propaganda war against the Arabs.

Using examples from recent history such as the naming of Israel’s anti-terror operation in Gaza, with the title “Cast Lead” the author laments the fact that Israel’s publicity machine is not keeping up.
In one particularly poignant paragraph Brian Schrauger points out that even support for Israel amongst American Christian Evangelicals is falling:
“…EVEN EVANGELICAL SUPPORT is eroding. A vocal minority remain effusive on Israel’s behalf. But the broader community is not monolithic. Many of its members are hungry for change, not unlike the political appetite that won Barack Hussein Obama the presidency. Among evangelicals the religious equivalent is a movement led by people like Brian McLaren, author of A New Kind of Christian; Stephen Sizer, a pastor who has gained popularity by condemning “Christian Zionism”; and, of course, Jimmy Carter, who accuses Israel of committing a “holocaust.” How widespread is the erosion of evangelical support for Israel? Google this: “Letter to President Bush from Evangelical Leaders.” Look at those who signed it – and the organizations they represent. Their claim to “represent large numbers of evangelicals” is true.” {Source: Jerusalem Post}
Such as a fall of support in a group that’s “hard-wired” to sympathise with Zionism is worrying for supporters of Israel.
As Philip Weiss notes more and more Americans are turning away from Israel. Does this mean that the tables have turned on Israel and her supporters ? No of course not. The reason being that western support for Israel in the final analysis is more to do with western interests than it is to do with Israeli or Arab interests. Many of Israel’s detractors seem either to be ignorant of this fact or forgetful.
