Arriva is a Europe wide public transportation company. It works in over 12 European countries and provides over one billion passenger journeys in a year.

Denmark is one of those European countries that Arriva provides passenger services. Due to some confusion over the status of veil wearing Muslim passengers with travel cards in the past,  Arriva has decided to lay the law down. From now on all veiled women will have to bear their faces when their travel cards are being checked:

“Muslim women who wear the face veil in Denmark will now have to bare their faces when their travel passes are being checked, Arriva — one of the country’s leading transport operators…

…”All bus companies have recently come to an agreement on this point as it is normal that passengers holding photo travel passes should identify themselves to the driver or the conductor,” Arriva spokesman Martin Wex said.

Those passengers who refuse to show their faces will be forced to buy another ticket to get on board, he said, adding that the policy would also apply to some Arriva train services in Denmark.” [Source: Alarabiya]
