Mention the words beheading, wife and more probably than not the image of a crazed bearded eastern looking Muslim man holding a blood soaked knife comes to mind. I’m sure that’s precisely what came into the minds of many an anti-Islam bigot when they read the tragic case of Maria Pia Scuto.

Maria was decapitated by her husband for the “crime” of talking to men over the internet. Giuseppe Castro killed Maria in front of her son and mother in the Sicilian town of Catania:

“A jealous husband reportedly cut off his wife’s head after catching her messaging a man she had met online.

Giuseppe Castro, 35, turned on Maria Pia Scuto, 41, after discovering her on the computer with her avatar lover on Second Life.

He is alleged to have stabbed her in the neck with a kitchen knife, then used the blade the saw off her head in front of their 15-year-old son and his mother-in-law….

…Castro’s teenage son tried to take responsibility for the murder to protect his father, but later retracted his ‘confession’, it was claimed.

Police have confiscated three computers from the house in Catania, Sicily, as part of their investigation.”

The tragic case of Maria Pia Scuto highlights a point that anti-Islam bigots wish to obscure namely that crime happens in all societies irrespective of race or creed. What the bigots do is to use horrible cases of murder such as Maria’s in Muslim countries to malign the whole of the religion and the entirety of it’s adherents. For many in the west this type of analysis rings true as it panders to their most basest of prejudices. Be that as it may the analysis of anti-Islam bigots does not change the fact that Islam is against murder irrespective of who perpetrates it.
