Christian Churches In Muslim Countries- A Blatant Western Lie Exposed
I came across a rather sad piece in the British newspaper the Daily Mail earlier today. A news report that any decent minded person whether Muslim or non-Muslim will condemn without condition.
The piece centres around plans for a large mosque to be built in London next to the venue of the 2012 Olympics. Dubbed a mega-mosque by the media the intended structure will be built on 17 acres of real estate and will be able to hold up to 40, 000 worshipers at any one time:
“The project’s backers hope the mosque and its surrounding buildings would hold a total of 70,000 people, only 10,000 fewer than the Olympic stadium.
Its futuristic design features wind turbines instead of the traditional minarets, while a translucent latticed roof would replace the domes seen on most mosques. The complex is designed to become the “Muslim quarter” for the Games, acting as a hub for Islamic competitors and spectators…..
…The east London complex would have by far the largest capacity of any religious building in Britain. The biggest at present is the Baitul Futuh in Morden, Surrey, which holds about 10,000 worshippers. Liverpool’s Anglican cathedral, the largest Christian place of worship, has a capacity of 3,000.
The new building will be called the London Markaz (Arabic for centre) and will be built in place of an existing mosque on a 10-acre site 500 yards from the Olympic development.
The three-storey mosque will be designed to accommodate more than 40,000 worshippers. Its sweeping roof is intended to evoke tented cities.
The complex would include a garden, school, library and accommodation for visiting worshippers.” (Source: Sunday Times)
Since the publication of this story in November 2005 opposition to the “mega-mosque” has grown steadily spurred on by a campaign by local Christian councillor Alan Craig.
In the latest development to this story an unknown Muslim has posted on Youtube a video death threat against the Christian councillor.
While reading about this case I came across a comment left by a reader to the Daily Mail site which I wish to share with you now:
“What in God’s name is happening to this country? If the shoe had been on the other foot and a Muslim was opposing the building of a Catholic Church Christians would not be acting this way. It’s about bloody time that this government got a grip on the situation, because every pub/street corner etc you hear people talking about how rubbish this country has become. Let all us British and Christian people unite and stand up against this blatant racism. This is OUR COUNTRY, it is a CHRISTIAN country and it’s about time we took it back. If they want to build a big mosque, go build it in a Muslim country, because you can bet your bottom dollar that we would not be able to build a Christian church in the Muslim countries.”- Cathy, Watford, England (Source: Daily Mail)
In particular I wish to look at Cathy’s last sentiment: “you can bet your bottom dollar that we would not be able to build a Christian church in the Muslim countries.”
It seems that this is a common notion amongst many Christians in the west. Many a time does one see this lie oft-repeated on the blogsphere as being the Gospel truth. For example the following is taken from a speech given by well known anti-Islam bigot Nonie Darwish:
“Arab governments have access to build mosques in the West, but they give Americans no access to build churches or synagogues in Muslim countries.” (Source: Citizen Warrior)
I have travelled in the Muslim world and know that this statement/claim is an absolute lie. There are many Christians and their churches throughout the Muslim world. In order to refute the lie that there are no churches in the Muslim world I present the following images from the Muslim world:
According to the images above it looks like Cathy of Watford, England would have lost her bottom dollar.

Aren’t some of these churches defunct and not used? In Islamic countries how many churches actually exist? Christians are killed in Islamic countries and India. Wht do you have to say about this? They were killed becuase they were christians.

@M Anderson well what do you think about it ?
December 15th, 2009 at 06:30
This is a wonderful blog. I’ve always been a believer of this kind of thinking. I’m hoping that this continues a revival of this style of thinking along the same lines.

I think the reason that Slovenia prevents the construction of mosques has to do with it’s historical memory of life as a dhimmi people under the Ottomans. What has Islam to offer to a small, start-up country to convince it that the horrors of Islamic depredations won’t re-occur?

Unlike Saudi Arabia, many of those countries listed, aren’t Islamic theocracies. They may have a Muslim majority, but they’re not theocracies. Even Iraq tries to put on a secular veneer. At least six of the above listed countries allow alcohol. There are no Churches or Synagogues in Saudi Arabia, where they strictly follow Sharia Law, that forbids building or repairing them.
January 8th, 2010 at 07:26
Saudi Arabia is a monarchy, sharia does not support a monarchy. No country has real sharia law.
Mot Muslims who support sharia want something like how Israel has Jewish law domestically(irrelevant to Israeli/Palestinian issue, I am talking domestically) and not some strange dictatorship.
There has not been real sharia since the first four caliphs.
As for Dhimmitude, at least the Muslims gave non-Muslims right. Why not read Mark cohens book under the crescent and under the cross, he compares jews under Christians and Muslims, and explains dhimmitude was far far far less oppressive then what the Christians did with their minorities. Dhimmi people were given rights. Look at the letter Mohammad left at st Catherine monastery at mt Sinai.
Daniel pipes even says this, and Robert Spencer considers him a legit soarce. Daniel pipes basically came out and referred Professor Mark Cohen s book, stating that minorities were treated far better in Muslim countries then in Europe, and Daniel pipes does NOT like Islam, yet he said this.
Bernard lewis, very pro-iraq war, pro-isreal can be quoted saying:
# “The fanatical warrior offering his victims the choice of the Koran or the sword is not only untrue, it is impossible.”[17]
# “Generally speaking, Muslim tolerance of unbelievers was far better than anything available in Christendom, until the rise of secularism in the 17th century.”[18]
EVEN BERNARD LEWIS says so, whom many in academia hold with respect(and contempt)

The Christians in many of those countries suffer greatly. Don’t be fooled by this pro-Islamic propaganda and Churches that were already there and building new ones are two different stories.
The Coptics in Egypt have been persecuted for centuries and now this is happening in Malaysia.
Malaysia: 3 More Churches Attacked

The Christians of Iraq are also being driven out. Islam is not Christianity friendly.

Hey Adam, dhimmi people were given less rights in exchange for extortion and people care about today, not the past of Europe.
Islams says that Muslims can invite non-Muslims to Islam or accept Islamic Law (jizya), and if neither is accepted they can wage holy war on non-Muslims. So I do not care what Lewis said, and once again try sticking to today.
January 12th, 2010 at 17:07
To Christopher Logan, a Jihad (Holy War) can only be legitimately be called by a world leader of the faith and only when Islam is itself threatened. All of the fundamentalists who claim they are waging a Jihad are misleading their followers.
Also, it could also be said that christianity is not Muslim friendly, after all this topic was started after a christian councillor opposed the building of a mosque and throughout history Christianity has been used as an excuse to cause an awful lot of pain and suffering, just like Islam is being used today. The Crusades are a fine example of this, or the Holocaust.
I am a christian and I don’t see anything to be wrong with Islam. It is a faith that preaches many of the same messages as Christianity. The religion is not to blame, the people who subvert it and twist it’s message are.
We should be leading through example, even if they won’t let a church be built in their country. In the words of Gandhi “An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind”. By showing tolerance and understanding in our society we may have a chance of slowly altering their society to a more tolerant one, but by seeking petty vengance all we wil do is fan the flames of fundamentalism.

“Christopher logan” is talking out of his backside. He ignores history and presents and argument based on absurdities and lies. Christians and Muslims in Iraq have been living in peace for centuries yet why things gotten worse? Its because of the war waged on that nation by Anglo-American for the last 7 years, a war I’m sure scum like Logan supported insisting that Iraq had WMD.
Funny how Bethlehem was Christian majority city for centuries under Muslim rule yet became de-Christianized in just 4 decades of “israeli” occupation huh? Saudi Arabia is a western client state run by a secular monarchy, so you blithering idiots ought to shut up and read some history books. Why is it the vast majority of dictatorships around the world are installed and supported by Uncle Sam I wonder.
The truth lies in the numbers, the Islamic world is a far more tolerant place for minorities then the lying theiving West.

The Anti-Christian sentiment in many Muslims countries is a response to the Islamophobia that Muslims endure in the West-well let’s be honest, the ‘Christian’ West.
Atheists, Buddhists, Sikhs, Secular Humanists, etc are fine and good neighbours but Christians particularly of the right-wing variety are very anti-Muslim, racist against non-whites. They love to rape the Muslim world of its resources, bomb their mosques, get Sunnis and Shias to fight each other, send in fanatical missionaries to convert Muslim peoples- yet they expect the Muslim world to welcome Christians, unbelievable!!! I am surprised how well the Muslim world treats its Christians given all this!
As it says, “As you sow……

G Ruddin are you sure your not a closet Muslim ?

It is very sad that the true message of Islam has been lost amidst all the extremism and islamophobia that one sees nowadays.
I am a 6th generation muslim from the Indian subcontinent. Islam was introduced to that country not by the sword as so many believe, but by Arab settlers in the south who arrived via boats. They lived their lives in a way that enticed the natives to offer their daughters in marriage and convert themselves.
If the Arab speaking countries are so anti Judeo-Christian, then how come Casablanca has a Jewish quarter, not to mention a Jewish mayor? Bernard Azulay is the spokesman for the King of Morocco, and is himself Jewish. Iraq under Saddam Hussein, the prime minister was Tariq Aziz, who despite his Islamic name, was a Christian.
The Arab countries had a Jewish presence well before the birth of Islam, and I applaud those countries for not denying this and trying to maintain the history of those lands.
One more thing – the countries of Iran and Pakistan hold elections in a way whereby seats are allocated to minorities so that they may have voices in parliament. That is why you have Christian and Hindu MPs in Pakistan, and Jewish and Zoroastrian MPs in Iran.

@ Christopher Logan,
U said non-muslims use to pay Jizziya but you forgot that there were taxes for mulsims and another one for the people of book. Muslim use to pay Zakkat and the non-muslims jizziyah. Where do you see an injustice.

17 acres is a lot of land in London for any religion – don’t the organisers know that nobody’d making making land now-a-days?
Although I hate bigots immaterial of what religion they profess to represent the organisers are encouraging hostility from just about every side including Muslims because of the amount of money this is going to cost.
Are they so wrapped up with this project that they’re unaware that 100,000′s of thousands of our citizens are struggling just to get by while they’re planning to spend so much?
Sounds to me as if someone wants this new complex to primarily make a public statement rather than represent a place of private worship?
What does Boris have to say about this? Not a lot I suppose. Politicians aren’t really know to express a candid opinion just in case it offends anyone!
It’s an excellent article and would have attracted many more honest and spontaneous comments. had you not made your bias so obvious.

Modern muslims and christians often do not treat each others cultures very well. There is a lack of respect for each religion. Fear is the cause, fear of the other. Indeed I could argue that these abrahamic religions (so Judaism too I guess) are competing for souls, in the same geographic areas.
Surely the way to find God is either through how you live, or how you die. If we can agree there is too much death, then maybe this destructive ignorance on the part of some christians and muslims and jews can be dissolved.

Most of those countries listed have severe restrictions on non-Muslims, and especially on non-muslim houses of worship. In Egypt and most other Islamic majority countries, a Church cannot be built higher than the shortest mosque in that city is. So if there are 50 mosques in a city with the tallest being 100 ft, and the shortest 10 foot – a Church needs to be 9 foot so it doesnt look greater than any Islamic building [christians are second class citizens dont forget].
Also, there are more building limits than that. Most countries limit the number of Churches built per year at 2. Just 2. And for a country like Egypt which has nearly 10 million Christians that is a huge restriction, especially when the building height limit is added in. There are far more restricions than that that MOST Islamic countries still follow, the only one that is generally not followed anymore is Jizzya – having to pay a tax for being a non-muslim [3rd rate citizen tax].
Of course, besides those building limits there is definately discrimination on the social level. A non-muslim is definately held back by being a non-muslim on the professional level [work], and there is the reality that Murders for being Christian are all to common in islamic countries. Including church burnings, beheading christians in remote areas, mob attacks [by angry muslims leaving mosque].
March 22nd, 2010 at 18:42
with that said, I have to point out that its funny that so many Muslims like to complain of discrimination here in our western countries. Just admit it, you have it NICE here. VERY nice. You move to a country which is not yours, and in Europes case – countries which have hardly any history at all of having a muslim population, and the natives bend over backwards to accomodate you. Look at that mosque being built in London! Thats ridiculous…and like others said, there is NO way any Muslim-majority country would allow construction of a mega church. Especially one in the heart of thier capitol city.

John i have to agree with you.The Middle East was originally Christian for 600yrs before Islam. When Islam arrived it was kill the infidel and is still like that to this day.Christians and all infidels had been driven out of Middle East and then Muslims had Europe in their sites. They invaded other peoples lands in Europe taking about a third of Europe. The front line being Krajina from the East and Spain from the West. There was no equality nor tolerance as Muslims want you to believe.Just ask a Serb!Their lands were taken, their first born male child was taken, and their women were stolen and taken to Turkey.Their history is tragic and brutal being on the front lines of Europe they endured 500 years of oppression with beheadings, impalements and virtually slaves in their own lands. The Muslims even built a tower out of Serbian heads that had been beheaded while alive. This tower still exists today as a reminder of what is Islam. It was NOT like the Christans went to invade Muslim lands, but the opposite.Because of this invasion and oppression the Crusades were born to free Europe.Your freedom today in a Western Christian Nation is because of the sacrafice of these Crusaders.Never forget that sacrifice,as it lasted to very recent up until WW1.

hi all, I’m from Indonesia. I like this blog ……. but it seems there is no Oman and Yemen are in the show, but I see the church in Oman and Yemen on the Internet. GBU ….!!!!!!

Yes you can have Christian churches in Islam, but you can not use them as it is forbbiden to a muslim to his change religion, punished with death penalty…
Yes, if a muslim wants to change, for example, for a Christian, it is not possible, they get DEATH PENALTY!!!!It is an islamic law!!!
where are the muslim humans rights, freedom?
May 19th, 2010 at 00:37
ohhh please, just show me 1 church in any muslim country that could hold more than 5000 people let alone 40000.
May 21st, 2010 at 22:18
BTW there is no such thing as islamophobia.
Islam is a outrageously made up religion by an arab warlord. It is backwards and does not fit in a modern world. I mean really…every now and then a religion pops up and you somehow believe your religion made up sometime in the 7th century is the true one?
Do you not understand that rational people laugh at you because you believe in what is essentially a fairy tale.
And like the man said…most of those countries are not hardcore Sharia infested swamps.
