Does that woman really have a choice about her religion and clothing? Perhaps here in the United State, where, despite our myriad failings, a woman might choose a burka or the skimpiest of attire. But in other countries her choice is to conform or be beaten . . . or worse.

it is her freedom of practicing religious beliefs and it is her strive to be accepted by society while still practicing it.
She may have thought to get out of the veil once, but her heart told her not to..she knows she is safer that way

These women do not have the choices that those of us in the US have. Most of them are subservient to the men in their family and are not allowed any freedoms as we know them.

If she truly has the choice, then I see no problem with it. Yes, I understand that even in strict society she has the choice to conform, or take the consequence (which, as I understand it, can even include death by horrendous means (stoning, etc)), but to me that is not truly a choice. If she is given the choice of conforming, or leaving the society (without fear of retribution for her actions), then it is choice.
Above all else what really matters is what does the woman think?
